Happy 50th Birthday – to us!
It seems incredible but 2007 marked our 50th anniversary. Many of you will remember Bernard Bloom who started Bloomsbury Dental (as we were then called) back in 1957. Now, of course, Bernard's son David is one of the partners (with Jay Padayachy) in charge of the practice, carrying on the reputation for excellence built by his father.
Right from the outset, we've had a reputation for being at the forefront of dentistry. Did you know, for instance, that Bloomsbury Dental was one of the first dental practices to introduce seated dentistry? Before that, everyone stood up for a check-up!
We were also one of the first practices to employ a hygienist to teach people how to look after their teeth and avoid disease. Our first hygienist, Alison Williamson, whom we first employed 35 years ago, now works for the General Dental Council, the professional governing body, on their fitness to practice committee, so we like to think we gave her a good start. Our present hygienist, Mel Prebble, carries on her great work.
Our name change came in 2004, to avoid confusion over our location (we never have been based in Bloomsbury!) with Senova being derived from the Japanese words for ‘new smile'. What hasn't changed is our commitment to offering the best in dental services, and the fact that we still have some of our original patients from 50 years ago hopefully proves we're getting it right!
To celebrate our 50th birthday, we've adopted our first official charity. The Child Bereavement Trust is a national charity offering vital care and support to grieving families after the loss of a child. We'll be giving you more information about this important link over coming months, but look out for the Trust's beautiful enamel snowdrop badges, on sale at our reception desk.
