Watford dentist offers patients a chance to help children with facial deformities
A Watford Dental Practice has signed up to a national scheme giving patients the chance to help children from developing countries with facial deformities, simply by having a dental whitening treatment, and at no extra cost to them.
Senova Dental Studios in Leavesden Road in Watford has joined a new scheme called 'Smiling for the World, which has just been launched by The British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD), the main industry body for cosmetic dentists in the UK.
The 'Smiling for the World' scheme benefits Facing The World, a charity (recently featured in a Channel 4 documentary) that helps give children the miracle of a new face and a life free from the stigma of disfigurement.
The charity scheme is very simple. Anyone planning a tooth whitening treatment can choose an in-surgery or at-home treatment, in consultation with one of the Senova dentists. The Senova team will waive the fees for their time and expertise, and the patient undergoing the tooth whitening pays the usual cost for the treatment directly to the charity.
Whitening is the most popular cosmetic dental treatment in the UK. At-home tray whitening systems cost around £300, with in-surgery treatments costing around £700, so the BACD estimate that if 200 dentists take part in the scheme (and there are over 620 members), they will be able to make a donation of £100,000 to Facing The World.
Senova Dentist (and President-Elect of The BACD) David Bloom says the scheme is a great way to benefit others:
"If you've been thinking about whitening your teeth, perhaps as part of a New Year's Resolution to give yourself a makeover, now is the ideal time to do it. Not only will you be improving your own smile, you'll be helping to give a child from a developing country the chance of life-changing surgery to tackle facial deformities."
David's business partner and fellow dentist Jay Padayachy added:
"We at Senova Dental Studios are really pleased to have been able to join the 'Smiling For The World' scheme. Whitening is one of our most popular procedures, so we're happy to be able to donate our time and expertise for free so our patients can donate to such a great cause."
