As you probably know by now, I think that a person’s smile is their most important attribute. Not only is it a gift to those a~ound you, spreading warmth and joy, but the very action of it lifts you from within. Yes, I do advocate going around grinning like a loony – it’s far more alluring than the trout pout! So for this reason I have always banged on about dental hygiene, teeth whitening, brightening and the overall grin MOT. because this is the first calling card that you present to people.

I have been quite vigilant over the years with my dental care. As you might have come to expect of me, I became a bit overzealous at the age of 23 and had veneers put on. Ah, what they don’t tell you. My New York dentist did a fabulous job of creating a dazzling smile, but failed to add that these babies had a life span that was far shorter than mine. So, at the ripe old age of 30, I had to have them re-done because seven years of wine gums and Haribos had taken their toll. My gleaming gnashers were gummed out!

Now I have problems of an entirely different nature. Pregnancy. Ah, what they don’t tell you. I never knew that pregnancy can sometimes lead to your gums receding and that any plaque that accumulates between the teeth is supercharged by your hormones, giving birth to the gingivitis monster and crumbling veneers. In my case, think Roman ruins. If only that old wives’ tale, ‘one tooth for each baby’, was true. I could manage without one, preferably at the back, but the four in the front are much needed for my pregnancy beam. So enter my saviour, Dr David Bloom of the Senova DenIal Studios which practises holistic care. In my opinion Dr Bloom is one of the most fantastic dentists this side of the pond. He and his brilliant partner, Dr Padayachy, head up a team of hygienists, implant specialists and whitening experts, as well as providing orthodontic treatment. This is your one-stOp shop for an extreme dental makeover and, unlike in America where more is more, the Senova Dental Studios will tailor your treatment, combining patients’ desires with dental practicality. The practice houses everything to calm scaredy-cats, from soothing music and candles to massage chairs and DVDs – it’s dental expertise, with a total spa experience thrown in.

This really is the home of sensational smiles and where I plan to get mine back. The care is so comprehensive that Dr Bloom even called before I arrived to discuss any fears or worries I might have (apart from being a snaggletooth I was fine, and just anxious for him to wave his magic wand). Together we devised a plan of maintenance to be carried out during the remainder of my pregnancy, and remodelling thereafter. I left beaming brightly after a supreme dean from Rachel the hygienist and a clear plan to smile brightly, even during labour!”
